Elevator Company Fined More Than $50K Around Death of Employee

California safety officials have issued more than $50,000 in fines against an elevator company whose employee was killed while working at the new 49ers stadium in Santa Clara.

Cal OSHA issued the citatons to Schindler Elevator Corporation for three serious violations, including its alleged failure to enclose counterweights in freight elevators with required guards.

63-year-old mechanic Don White was killed on June 11 by an elevator counterweight.
