Elk Grove is now now the first city in Northern California to implement the national safety database called Smart911, to improve emergency services for residents.
Elk Grove Police Officer Chris Trim says it is a way for residents to customize their 911 service.
"If there was a special needs child in the house, if there was an elderly person with Alzheimer's where they would frequently become lost -- information like that is definitely needed by law enforcement, by medical personnel," Trim said.
Any information you provide will be immediately viewable by 911 dispatchers when a resident places an emergency call.
The service is nationwide and a safety profile can be created through the Smart911 website at www.Smart911.com.
