The City of Elk Grove is launching a new social media effort to curb hunger in the Sacramento area.  In a video presentation on the city's exchange website Mayor Gary Davis explains that anyone with extra food, including people with excess fruit on the trees in their yards or those with more than they can eat coming from home gardens, to sign up.

The idea is to let the community know via the exchange who has extra food and who is in need, so they can be matched.
