An arrest has been made in an armed robbery turned deadly last night in North Highlands.

An employee working at the O'Reilly Auto Parts store on Elkhorn Boulevard was killed when a man in a black hooded sweatshirt came in a little after 7 p.m. and told three employees to get on the floor.

One of the workers was shot after he stabbed the gunman.

The employee, who is said to be in his 20s, died at the hospital.

Deputies set up an 8- to 9-block perimeter to search for the gunman, but took it down just before 9 p.m.

A helicopter was circling the area and announcing the shooter's description, but he was able to leave the scene undetected.

Authoriteis said the suspect was wounded and left a trail of blood from the scene.

Hours later the suspect turned up at Methodist Hospital looking for treatment. Detectives determined he was the man they were looking for and arrested him.

The two other employees were not injured during the robbery.
