A new study says Facebook could lose up to 80 percent of its users by 2017.

A study at Princeton found that the number of Google searches for Facebook peaked in December 2012.

The researchers theorize that Facebook will suffer the same fate as failed website Myspace that hit its peak in 2008, before heading into terminal decline.

The researchers claim the life cycles of social media are similar to a disease that spreads and then dies.

Many say that teenagers are indeed jumping ship in favor of new, more hip services such as Instagram, Snapchat or Tumblr.
