The family of a woman who was found dead in a hospital stairwell is filing a claim against the City and County of San Francisco, claiming negligence.

An attorney for Lynne Spalding's family said the 57-year-old woman's death at San Francisco General Hospital last fall came as a result of "reckless neglect of her care" by hospital staffers and the sheriff's department, which provides security at the facility.

Spalding was reported missing from her room several days after being admitted for treatment of an infection on Sept. 19.

It wasn't until Oct. 8, when her body was discovered.

The claim seeks damages from the city.
