Sikh community members are questioning why police in Lodi killed a man whose family and friends say suffered from post traumatic stress disorder.
The mother of 43-year-old Parminder Singh Shergill says she called police when he walked out of the house unexpectedly while was having an episode.
Police shot and killed the man after they say he charged them with a knife -- a claim civil rights attorney Mark Merin is disputing.
"He never brandished any weapons and nobody saw a knife in his hands," Merin said. "He turned around and put his hands up in the air and said, 'Don't shoot,' at which time he was killed."
Lodi Police say they found a folding blade knife at the scene.
Neither the family or their attorney had an explanation for that.
Dozens of mourners came together Friday night. He will be buried with full military honors.
