A budget decision in Washington, D.C., could cost jobs at Beale Air Force Base near Marysville.

The Defense Department's 2014-2015 budget proposal could end funding for the U-2 spy plane program at Beale.

Well over 1,000 military personnel and civilians work in that program.

Sources says Beale could also return to a mission of air refueling, and many of the base's workers are cross-trained and capable of doing other jobs besides those involved in the U-2 program.

Still, about a quarter of the workforce could be impacted if Congress approves the proposed DOD budget as is.
