A fight is brewing over an autistic adults right to an education.

David Swanson is an autistic 21-year-old who communicates by sign language and gestures understood by family members and a nurse who works with him, News10 reported.

It's been a year since David has been in class in the Yuba City School District.

The trouble began with Annette Armstrong, the nurse assigned to take care of him, since he has diabetes, was dismissed from the district after reporting allegations of abuse by school officials force feeding David.

Now the district, the nurse and David's mother, Heather Houston, are headed to a four-day hearing to determine if David can return to school, or be educated at a private school with the district picking up the tab.
