Bonney Field is nearly ready.
The Sacramento Republic FC's first game at the new Cal Expo stadium is this Friday and crews are working around the clock to get it prepared in time.
With 8,000 seats, it's much smaller than Hughes Stadium, where the team had been playing, but the field is built just for them.
"This is real grass. It's much closer to the regulation size that coach Preki and our players enjoy for their style of play," the team's Erika Bjork said.
Bjork tells KFBK that fans will still experience the same pre-game and halftime atmosphere with family activities, merchandise and good eats.
"Food trucks, beer garden, games for the kids, face painters, all that kind of good stuff," she said.
Bonney Field can double as a center for rugby games. Sales have been strong for the first ever USA Rugby match in Sacramento.
It's Saturday against Canada and will air on NBC Universal.
