Fire officials in the Sacramento area want to be better prepared for all sorts of disasters, so they're looking to create a big training center near Mather Field, it's in the early stages of construction now.

Sacramento City Fire, Sac Metro Fire, and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services teaming up to make it happen. Their combined group is called the California Fire & Rescue Training Authority.

Already the authority has spent $13 million on the project, but officials say it'll take up to $56 millions to re-create big-scale disaster scenarios from plane crashes, to terror attacks and earthquakes on 53-acres.  They're looking for grants to get it finished.
