The state's Veterans Affairs Department today recognized five Californians who were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for their efforts serving our country.

"It's just such an honor to the families that their loved ones have finally received this honor" said Cal Vet's Jaime Arteaga.

Arteaga added that those family members gathered at the State Capitol this morning to honor the memories of Vietnam Veterans Leonard Alvarado and Jesus Duran,

Korean War Vet Eduardo Gomez,

and "Joe Gandara and Salvador Lara who served in World War Two.  

After the ceremony, plaques with their names were unveiled on the Medal of Honor Wall.
