The number of people who are dying from the flu in California continues to rise. Dr. Gil Chavez with the Department of Public Health says 278 people, including six children, have now passed away.

Over the course of last year's flu season, only 106 deaths were reported in those under the age of 65. Chavez says there are an additional 29 unconfirmed fatal cases under investigation that are likely to be confirmed by next week.

Sacramento County's death toll stands at 26. It's believed the season has peaked. Dr. Olivia Kasirye describes symptoms that include a severe cough with difficulty breathing and a high fever that does not come down even with medication.
