Former White House Press Secretary James Brady has died, according to a statement from his family.

Brady was press secretary to Ronald Reagan and was severely wounded in a 1981 assassination attempt on the president.

Brady was one of four people injured when Hinckley opened fire on Reagan as he left a hotel.

He was shot in the head and initially pronounced dead at the scene. But he survived.

Following the shooting, Brady was left partially paralyzed and in w wheelchair.

Brady went on to become a leading champion of gun control.
