Residents from as far away as San Diego will meet on the steps of the State Capital today to protest "fracking" in California.

Patrick Sullivan with the Center for Biological Diversity says fracking blasts huge volumes of water mixed with toxic chemicals into the ground to break up rock formations, and public health risks are made worse by fracking’s unregulated expansion throughout California’s lands and coastal waters.

The concerns include air pollution and water pollution. Sullivan says fracking has been tied to water pollution in other states.

Actress Daryl Hannah is expected to speak at the event today which starts at 1pm on The Capitol Lawn at Capitol Mall & 10th Streets.
