Governor Brown has issued an executive order to redouble the actions the state has taken in light of the drought.

The administration says available water transfers for farmers will be expedited, there will be more monitoring of the impacts on salmon in the Sacramento River, and equipment purchases will be streamlined for Cal Fire.

'We've had long, long droughts in the past and one never knows what we're up against in the future, so we do have to take appropriate precaution,' Brown says.

He wants us all to limit car washing and lawn watering - homeowner's association fines are being suspended to allow the browning of grass.

Brown's announcement says current electronic readings show the snowpack’s statewide water content is just 16 percent of average.
