Governor Brown has named one of his aides as the new head of the troubled Employment Development Department.
Patrick Henning has helped handle the governor's appointments since 2011 and his father lead the EDD under former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The department has blamed federal budget cuts for calls that went unanswered.
A computer glitch recently delayed unemployment payments to thousands of Californians.
Henning will make $150,000 annually.
