Governor Brown Supports More Shelters for Illegal Immigrant Children

Posted July 30th, 2014 @ 8:41am by KFBK News - Tim Lantz

Governor Jerry Brown continues to be front and center in the debate over Central American children fleeing into the U.S.

Despite some vocal protests over illegal immigrant children and others being bused into California communities, Brown says he would support additional shelters for the minors in California.

He adds that "Certainly I'd do everything I could to make sure California will do its part to shelter any young children that are in need of protection."

But Brown has not taken a position on a $3.7 billion proposal by President Barack Obama to address the crisis, a plan that likely -- and controversially for many Democrats -- would accelerate deportations of unaccompanied minors.

The governor said he is "not in a position to make congressional commentary on that bill."
