A project that will bring a few hundred jobs to West Sacramento is officially under way.

The Shinmei Company of Kobe, Japan, broke ground this morning for a $10 million factory to make rice buns.

Shinmei will manufacture gluten-free rice buns with local products and is seeking certification for organic, kosher and halal.

The factory is expected to be 28,000-square-feet on 6 acres of land in the Southport Business Park.

It's supposed to open March of 2015 and approximately 150 construction jobs will be generated.

The factory itself is supposed employee well over 100 people.

The facility is the first in the United States for the company. West Sacramento was primarily chosen as the location because of its proximity to rice fields.
