The head of Caltrans will be answering some tough questions today from a State Senate review committee about construction of the new Bay Bridge.

Caltrans wants the public to understand that the Bay Bridge is safe.

In an news release leading up to a Senate Review Panel today, Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty responded to the  Senate report on Bay Bridge construction by pointing out many misleading or inaccurate sections.

But Dougherty also agreed that no one -- not even the strongest critics discussed in the report -- disputes the safety of the Bay Bridge.

Dougherty says the report rehashes issues that have been investigated, reviewed and in many cases resolved.

Dougherty admits to some "lessons learned" and expects to share those with the review panel today.
