A rush of last-minute enrollees has slowed traffic on the Covered California website. Today is the last day to apply for new health coverage but some customers can't get through.

Executive Director Peter Lee says they're working on the problem.

A preview feature has been turned off to save on bandwidth and some users may actually be kicked off after reaching a certain point. Lee says, "We will say 'Thank you, congratulations, you have started your account. You're in the process. Please come back tomorrow or the next day to finish your application.'"

You need to start applying by midnight, there's a grace period for marking purchases. Lee says 150 thousand people enrolled in new plans last week. 'This means that Covered California has passed the 1.2 million mark.'
