Inmates Can Once Again Be Sent to Prison Medical Complex in Stockton

Sick inmates can once again be sent to a costly prison medical complex in Stockton.

The court-appointed overseer of the state's prison medical care says problems at the $839 million facility have been corrected.

It opened last July, but admissions were halted in January over an inability to provide even basic services.

Corrections officials say new investments should prove to federal judges that California is serious about improving its care of physically and mentally ill inmates.

Poor treatment was what led judges to demand a drastic reduction in our prison population.
