Insurance fraud is on the rise in the state.
California has become a hot-spot for insurance schemes, ranking first in the nation for questionable insurance claims in 2012.
L.A. County's District Attorney Jackie Lacey says a growing number of crooks are staging phony car accidents to file bogus claims.
"If you are engaged in this type of activity, you can end up in state prison," she said.
Lacey says insurance fraud leads to higher rates for everyone and encourages you to call authorities if you know anyone involved in such schemes.
