We've been hit with some soaking rain, but have recent storms eased our drought conditions?

Not quite, but they've been a sort of down payment on an easier summer.

Melissa Meade is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento and says February was a good, wet, month with about four inches of rain.

That's well above normal amounts but we're still not anywhere close to where we need to be overall.

"The seasonal average is now, if I average Downtown and Sac Exec, about 43 percent for the water year," Meade said.

The rain is good news for CalFire with short-term relief in fuel moisture.

This year's fire season never actually ended and the agency expects to stay fully staffed through 2014.
