A knife wielding man was shot and killed by police on a light rail passenger train in Sacramento on Saturday night.

Emergency calls brought two Sacramento police officers to the train, which was stopped at the 13th Street station at 9:15 p.m.

Once on board, officers confronted a man in his 50's who was reportedly suicidal according to Sgt. Michelle Gigante.

After officers tased the man, he lunged at them with a knife, so they we're forced to shoot the man multiple times. He was rushed to the U.C. Davis Medical Center where he later died.

A portion of the light rail system was shut down until after midnight with Regional Transit providing buses to move passengers around.
