UPDATE as of 6:30pm:

Emergency crews remain on the scene of an accident involving two fire engines in the Los Angeles area. 

Authorities initially said 14 people suffered injuries in the Wednesday afternoon crash, but now say that number is down to eight. 

Several firefighters are among those with injuries. Two fire trucks headed to the same house fire in Monterey Park crashed at an intersection. 

One engine ended up careening into a nearby restaurant. One victim remains in critical condition.

Nearly a dozen people have been injured after a pair of fire trucks collided in the Los Angeles area.

L.A. County Fire officials say two fire engines collided around Garfield and Emerson avenues in Monterey Park.  

One of the trucks then careened into a nearby restaurant.

Authorities say at least ten people are injured, including five people with critical injuries.  

Fire officials say one of the injured people are critical, while the others range from moderate injuries to "walking wounded." Some of those who suffered injuries are firefighters. 

Fire officials say the two fire engines were both headed to a house fire in Monterey Park when the accident happened. 

A large emergency services presence remains on scene trying to figure out how the accident happened.
