A California lawmaker wants to help thousands of students get financial aid to help them go to college.

Assemblyman Phil Ting has introduced a bill he says would require all state high schools to electronically submit grade point averages for all graduating 12th graders.

That information is part of the requirement for students to be considered for certain financial aid.

But Ting says many times the information isn't sent and that leaves students ineligible for such aid.
