A lawsuit is asking the courts to block a cross from being put back on the Los Angeles County seal.
The American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit Thursday against the L.A. County Board of Supervisors, after they voted to place a small cross on the seal.
County supervisors who supported the change say they are merely trying to provide an accurate depiction of the San Gabriel Mission, considered by many to be the birthplace of L.A. County.
The ACLU says by placing a cross on the seal, the city show favoritism toward one religion.
Officials now say the plan to add the cross is being put on hold.
