Katherine Elorduy is with Bloodsource and she says the agency is having a hard time keeping enough blood on hand,

"Some of our regular donors who come in on a routine base have had to cancel their appointments because of the flu."

So the call is going out asking for more people to donate at one of the 18 Bloodsource locations or many blood drives that are held often.

"It's very safe, it takes just about an hour, and it's a great feeling knowing you've helped somebody," said Elorduy.

She added that 38% of the population is eligblie to donate, but only about 10% do.

Those up to the task need to meet some basic requirements:

  • 17-years-old or 16 with a parent's permission

  • 110 pounds

  • good health over the last the 48 hours.
