Fire safety is nothing to mess with, but one scam may be putting local restaurants at risk.
A bill from a fake business called RMZ Fire Safety out of Walnut Creek reads "Annual State Required Fire Safety Equipment Inspection."
"It looks completely legitimate," Allen Ervin, owner of Scott's Seafood Grill and Bar said.
Ervin says his restaurant received a bill from the company and that they are required to have their fire equipment inspected.
This raises concerns that equipment has not been checked properly and may not work in an emergency. Not to mention the $400 bill that is a hit to the restaurant's profits.
"We've got ourselves 14 halibut to make up for that," he said.
Ervin encourages other restaurant owners to check bills carefully and call the company if it isn't someone you do business with regularly.
