The vast majority of California voters are against the secession that some of the state's northern-most rural counties would like.

The Field Poll says only 25% would vote to approve the request by Siskiyou and Modoc counties to break away and create the 51st state, named Jefferson.

59% disapprove and the rest have no opinion.

The two counties have asked to break away because they feel ignored by the state government in Sacramento and want more local control.
