The mayor of a Southern California city says immigrant safety is a top priority in his city.
"Our plan this entire time, was to make sure that we provided the safety for everyone. Protesters on both sides and anyone who comes through the city of Murrieta and that plan still is in place," Mayor Alan Long of Murrieta said.
Murrieta told CNN's "State of the Union" residents are also worried about humane treatment for immigrants.
A group of Murrieta citizens are determined to fight the federal government's plan to use the city's Border Patrol station as an undocumented immigrant processing facility.
Protesters claim the immigrant children may contribute to area crime once they're released.
They also say they're worried about health issues like tuberculosis.
