We have Sept. 18 and 19 to make an impression.

Major League Soccer officials have confirmed a visit to the Sacramento-area this month.

MLS President Mark Abbott and Charles Altchek, the special assistant to the league's commissioner, will be exploring the potential for an expansion franchise and a new soccer-specific stadium.

A focus of the Sacramento visit will be the downtown railyards, a site pushed by Mayor Kevin Johnson as a front-runner for a complex.

The executives will also visit Elk Grove, which is working on its own plan to attract a franchise.

City leaders have earmarked a 100 acre plot of land.
