Officials in New Hampshire say a police officer was shot and killed before a house exploded into a ball of flames.
"It literally shook the ground and a massive big black cloud of smoke came up in the air and you could actually see the flames shooting over the trees," said New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph Foster.
Foster identified the dead officer as Steve Arkell. The Brentwood officer was shot responding to a domestic disturbance call.
Foster says Arkell was shot by Michael Nolan, who died either in the fire or the explosion.
A second officer tried to enter the home but was driven out by gunfire.
The explosion was caught on video by several news outlets.
