Trees can now remain on Sacramento levees without the fear of losing federal disaster relief.

Chris Gray with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says, 'Previously they would potentially have been ineligible for that aid if there were a vegetation deficiency. 'What the new guidance does is give them more flexibility to deal with that potential risk on a case by case basis.'

The Corps says it will continue to inspect levees according to vegetation standards, but the presence of vegetation will not automatically exclude that area from disaster relief funding as it had previously.
