A recent H&R Block survey shows about one in five Americans who prepare their own taxes don't claim all of the credits and deductions for which they qualify.  A local non-profit wants to make sure YOU'RE not missing out.

The Capitol Region's United Way is teaming up with the IRS and community partners on a website that helps you maximize your tax refund.

"For households making less than $58,000 a year it's completely free, for those making more, it's less than $50," explained The United Way's Amber Lovett.

She added that the easy to use website helps you take advantage of tax credits you might not know about, and if you need a little extra help, in-person assistance is available.

"Those who have additional questions or need one-on-one help can schedule an appointment through the website to meet with a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteer at one of the many locations in the greater Sacramento area."

There'll also be a number of weekend events where families can get help and learn about available resources.
