Obama: No U.S. Troops Will be on the Ground in Iraq

Posted Friday, June 13th 2014 @ 9am  by KFBK News

President Barack Obama is still reviewing options on Iraq, including possible military assistance.

In a statement at the White House this morning, the president talked about the surge of radical Islamist militants in Iraq.

He said it threatens U.S. national security interests in the volatile Middle East.

Obama put the burden on Iraq's political leaders to solve the crisis.

Obama did not address speculation about possible U.S. airstrikes in Iraq.

The White House has made it clear there will be no U.S. boots on the ground.

The last U.S. combat troops left Iraq in late 2011 after roughly eight years of war.
