President Obama is set to announce two new manufacturing institutes designed to bring companies closer to skilled workers and educational facilities.

An unnamed White House official says the President will announce the new institutes in Detroit and Chicago on Tuesday. The institute in Detroit will focus on modern metals, especially those that are lightweight.

The institute in Chicago will concentrate on digital manufacturing and design. The President hopes to create 45 of the institutes, which are designed to encourage businesses to locate in areas that already have world-class educational and research facilities in place.
