California's drought continues, putting forest officials on high alert preparing for campers and potential fires as Memorial Day Weekend approaches.

Eric Ferrell, El Dorado National Forest's Fire prevention tech says that it's small things campers usually forget. When it comes to a campfire permit though, there's no excuse. Along with the usual places you can even get one on the web.

"It's available online at," Ferrell said.

Just print it, sign it and bring it with you. Ferrell also reminds campers to clear the way before settling down for s'mores and stories.

"Before people light their campfires, they need to do a good 10-foot clearance down to bare mineral soil around the campfire," he said.

And most importantly, as Smoky Bear says, "Only you can prevent wildfires."
