Tentative plans are in the works for a new soccer stadium in Sacramento.

Officials with Cal Expo say the 8,000 seat facility would be the home of Sacramento Republic FC of the United Soccer League.

The Cal Expo board will vote on the deal Feb. 28, and if approved, construction of the privately financed stadium would begin immediately at the state fair site.

Team officials say an interim plan is in place to use Hughes Stadium at Sacramento City College if the new venue isn't ready by the April 26 season opener.
