The Old Florin Town area is going to get a face lift.

Groundbreaking for a new project starts this morning.

Things are going to look a little different along the Old Florin Town Streetscape.

New sidewalks, decorative street lighting, new traffic signals, water tower features, landscaping and plaza enhancements are among the planned changes.

"Basically the project is a complete revitalization type project where we're improving everything from the sidewalk to the roadway, improving mobility, safety and overall appearance of the particular corridor," John Jaeger with the Department of Transportation said.

The goal is to make the area more pedestrian friendly to encourage more growth in the area.

Supervisors Jimmie Yee, Phil Serna and Don Nottoli are expected to speak at the groundbreaking event at 10 a.m. today at the Southgate Recreation & Park District parking lot at the corner of Florin Road and McComber Street.

Project construction costs are $3.3 million. The project is financed with Federal Transportation Funds, Community Development Block Grant funds provided by SHRA and local matching funds.
