More than one million people have signed up for health care coverage through Covered California.
The state's health insurance exchange crossed the one million mark on Friday -- well ahead of the projected total for the first six months of enrollment, which was 696,000.
Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee says hitting the million mark is historic, and is urging those without health coverage to enroll now, before the March 31, deadline, to avoid the last minute rush of applications.
Locally, 45,998 consumers in the four Sacramento-region counties enrolled in Covered California health insurance plans through Feb. 28.
The new total represents a 16 percent increase from the 38,507 enrollments recorded through Jan. 31.
