Police Warn of Scam Targeting the Elderly

Citrus Heights Police have a warning about scammers that are targeting the elderly and have already made off with thousands of dollars.

On three separate occasions now, two suspects have approached elderly couples outside of grocery stores or in shopping centers and run a con that has those victims clearing out their savings accounts.

"By convincing them to go to their local banks and withdraw money in exchange for an inheritance or something that they are displaying to have through court documents or false pieces of paper," Lt. Jason Russo said.

There was a recent incident in Rancho Cordova where one of the scammers played along and seemed to hand over their money as well.

If you see something, say something. Police would like to get the pair on surveillance video.
