A possible data breach at the DMV has security experts on alert.
The agency was notified by law enforcement, and despite a lack of evidence that any consumer credit card information was breached, the California DMV will be launching an investigation.
Brian Krebs, a security expert, says the breach could have lasted for as musch as six months.
"The window of compromise stretched from Aug. 2, 2013, to the end of January," Krebs said.
The DMV said it has increased monitoring of its website.
MasterCard has sent out alerts to member banks, and advises consumers to review their accounts and contact their card issuer for assistance.
