There's a concentrated effort underway to curb the multi-state outbreak of Salmonella -- as pressure mounts against Foster Farms.

First the USDA put three Central Valley plants on a possible closure list due to public safety concerns, then the state sent out warnings about limiting infections by very carefully preparing -- and fully cooking -- poultry and now Consumer Reports is chiming in.

"Other companies have issued recalls for far fewer people getting sick, we think it's about time that Foster Farms issue a recall," Dr. Urvashi Rangan said.

Rangan says their own ongoing tests have found dangerous strains of the salmonella bacteria. Most infections have been concentrated in California and the West, but the Centers for Disease Control has also now tracked them to North Carolina, Arkansas and Florida.
