Professional soccer in Sacramento is proving to be more popular than expected, and that has Sacramento Republic officials thinking about expansion.
The stadium in the works at Cal Expo, now called Bonney Field, is supposed to seat 8,000 fans.
However, the Sacramento Business Journal reports the Republic sold 20,000 tickets for the first two games played at the team current home field -- Hughes Stadium at Sac City College.
They sold an additional 18,000 tickets after that.
That kind of demand, if it holds, would go far beyond the capacity at Bonney Field.
Team officials are looking at options for expanding at Cal Expo, but they've not worked out any details yet.
