Proposed Hit and Run Bill to Increase Penalties
Posted Tuesday, March 11th 2014 @ 3pm  by KFBK News

A new bill that would increase penalties for drivers who flee the scene of an accident was unanimously passed by the Assembly Public Safety Committee today.

The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Mike Gatto, would increase hit-and-run penalties to include automatic license suspension for motorists who flee the scene of an accident.

Right now, there are few consequences for hit-and-run offenders whose victims are lucky enough to walk away with only minor injuries.

Bicycle experts report bicyclists and pedestrians are especially vulnerable to hit and run collisions.
