Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning to meet President Barack Obama and other Western leaders next month.

He'll reportedly attend a World War II anniversary in France.

This will mark the first time Putin has met Western leaders since the crisis in Ukraine began.

President Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are among those who plan to attend a ceremony in Normandy marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The Russian Ambassador confirmed Putin's attendance after French President Francois Hollande said Putin was still welcome at the ceremony.

Relations between Russia and the West have become icy since Ukrainians ousted their pro-Russian president.  The U.S. and the European Union have imposed sanctions on several Russians since the crisis began.
