The City of Rancho Cordova is looking to rewrite the rules on smoking, and that's not good news for hookah bars in the city.

At last night's meeting, the Rancho Cordova City Council chose to temporarily ban any new hookah bars over the next 45 days.

The move comes as the city considers new laws regarding a possible ban on e-cigarettes -- something other cities, including Los Angeles, have done or are considering.

Rancho Cordova councilman Donald Terry says there's a need to look at revising the rules for the sake of public health.

"These types of businesses, right now, we have no regulation over -- what kind of out-gassing they're doing, what kind of filtration systems they have," Terry said.

The council will revisit smoking laws in Rancho Cordova in two weeks.
