Rapid Follow-Up Leads to Arrest in Downtown Sacramento Shooting
Posted March 29th, 2014 @ 11:17am by KFBK News

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 12th and D streets. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female victim suffering from a single non-life threatening gunshot injury to her leg.

An eye witness who wishes to remain unidentified and was four feet away from the shooting spoke to News10: 'The guy walks into the street and pulls a gun - and the other one pulls a gun too.' He says he was standing right in front of a tattoo shop when shots rang out. He says 'I ran inside the tattoo shop and ducked down for cover because they started shooting. I heard two shots.'

A preliminary investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from an altercation between two groups which escalated into the assault. One of the involved parties is believed to have fired a gun as he was fleeing the scene.

Patrol officers and crime suppression units performed rapid follow up which led them to suspect Demetrius Martin, 20, who was ultimately believed to have fired a gun during the assault.

The victim, in her 20's, was transported to an area hospital to be treated. This investigation continues to be ongoing as officers are attempting to the identity other involved parties that were on scene during the altercation.

Martin was arrested in the 1200 block of Delta Street; he was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) and violation of his probation.
